TEMECULA, Calif.- The women's soccer team lost their first Cal Pac game against Benedictine University.
The Firebirds were able to hold off the
Redhawks for almost the entire first half. Jazmin Martinez from Benedicitine was able to find a way through the USK defense with five minutes left in the half and scored the first goal of the game. As the teams headed into halftime the score was 0-1 with the Redhawks leading.While the first half was mainly controlled by Benedictine the Firebirds were able to even it out in the second. USK took five shots compared to the Redhawks six. The beginning of the second half was in the favor of the Firebirds and their momentum until Benedicitine was able to get a penalty shot. Martinez again was able to score resulting in a score of 0-2. The Firebirds continued to put pressure on the Redhawks defense but were not able to convert to a goal.
Veronica Rodriguez led USK with three shots and two on goal. Kenna Rodriguez was protecting the net for the Firebirds and had eight saves.

The Firebirds will head to Riverside, Calif. to face off with La Sierra, who they beat earlier this season, on Sept. 29 at 5:00 p.m.
