The women’s goalball team secured a silver medal in Tokyo after a 2-9 finish against reigning Paralympic champion Turkey. It marks the 12th Paralympic medal for USA Goalball and the seventh medal won by the women’s program that earned the bronze medal in Rio five years ago.
The American squad rallied back on several occasions throughout the match but couldn’t overcome the experienced Turkey lineup. Turkey capitalized on a quick run to close out
the first half with a 6-1 and maintain the advantage through the second half. Turkey’s Sevda Altunoluk was the star of the match, talling eight goals, including one off a penalty, and 53 total throws.Eliana Mason accounted for 45 of the team’s 104 total throws and Lisa Czechowski recorded 30 in the match. Mason and Asya Miller each recorded a goal for Team USA.
