Four-time Paralympian Cheri Madsen took home the bronze medal in the women’s 100-meter T54 with a season-best mark of 16.33 behind Amanda Kotaja from Finland (15.93) in second place at the Tokyo Stadium. The seasoned veteran recorded her ninth Paralympic medal after making her debut at the Paralympic Games Atlanta 1996. Madsen will compete for her 10th medal in the women’s 400 T54 on Thursday, Sept. 2.
Trenten Merrill placed third in the men's long jump T64 with a 7.08 meter jump for a new Americas record. Germany’s Markus Rehm won gold (8.18) and France’s Dimitri Pavade (7.39) finished second. The two-time Paralympian won his first Paralympic medal after just barley missing the podium with a fourth-place finish in Rio 2016.
