Masters Takes Gold in H5 Road Race; Dana Wins Bronze in H1-4 Road Race

Oksana Masters topped the podium in consecutive days by dominating the women’s H5 road race with a time of 2:23:39 and finishing without another racer in sight at Fuji International Speedway. Masters outlasted the competition and relied on her experience to navigate a tough course that spans 66.0km and beat Bianbian Sun of China in second place at 2:26:50. Now a 10-time Paralympic medalist, Masters first won gold in the women's H4-5 time trial (45:40.05) on Tuesday morning. This was Masters first win in a major road race competition.

Alicia Dana won the bronze medal with a 56:24

mark in the women’s H1-4 road race on Wednesday morning. After traveling a total distance of 26.4km, it came down to the wire as Germany’s Annika Zeyen crossed the finish line at 56:21 to take home silver. The hardware marks Dana’s second career Paralympic medal, including a silver in the same event at Rio 2016. Dana also placed sixth in the women's H1-3 time trial in Tokyo in her third Paralympic Games.

Dana and Masters will compete with Team USA in the mixed H1-5 team relay on Thursday, Sept. 2 to close out the Tokyo Games.
