Steven Haxton Wins Silver in Va'a Single 200-Meter VL2

Steven Haxton won a silver medal in the men's va'a single 200m VL2 in a tightly contested battle down the stretch clocking in at 55.093 on Saturday at the Sea Forest Waterway. The two-time Paralympian has awaited this moment for the last five years after narrowly placing fourth in the PR1 single sculls to miss his medal moment in Rio 2016.

Haxton recorded a Paralympic best time in the event during the prelims at 54.576, but the record was short lived as Brazil’s Fernando Rufino de Paulo won the gold medal at 53.077. He is the only dual sport athlete for Team USA competing at the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 after competing in rowing earlier at the Tokyo Games. He placed fourth (10:28.82) in the PR1 men's single sculls PR1M1x on Aug. 28.
