Three-time Paralympic champion, three new world records and four total Paralympic medals, Nick Mayhugh made his mark with a phenomenal Paralympic Games debut at Tokyo 2020. Mayhugh won his third gold medal of the Tokyo Games when he broke the world record a second time in the men’s 200 T37 in a scorching time of 21.91.
He previously broke the 200 T37 world record on Friday, Sept. 3 in the preliminaries with a time of 22.26. Andrei Vdovin from Russia claimed silver (22.24) and Ricardo Gomes de Mendonca from Brazil won bronze (22.62).
Mayhugh has won a medal in each race he has competed in including a world record in the men’s 100 T37 (10.95) and a silver medal in the 400 T37. The 25-year-old also was a key component in the Team USA relay that won gold in the 4x100 universal relay in a world-record time of 45.52.
