Martin Grabs First Tokyo Gold in Men's 100m T52; Phongsavanh Wins Bronze in Seated Javelin F54

Three-time Paralympian Raymond Martin had a magical ending to his Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 journey after securing gold in the men’s 100m T52 on a rainy Friday morning at the Tokyo Stadium. The medal marks Martin’s third Paralympic podium appearance in Tokyo and tenth Paralympic medal overall. Martin has earned either a gold or silver in every Paralympic final he’s entered since London 2012. The New Jersey native picked up two other medals in Tokyo after securing silver in both the men’s 400 T52 and 1500 T52.

Justin Phongsavanh collected a bronze medal in seated javelin F54 with a throw of 31.09 meters in his Paralympic Games debut. Russia’s Aleksei Kuznetsov took silver (31.19) and Iran’s Hamed Amiri claimed gold (31.35). Phongsavanh is the current world record holder in the event after he posted an incredible distance of 33.29 at the 2020 U.S. Paralympic Team Trials in Minneapolis.
