Evan Medell Makes History as First U.S. Medalist in Para Taekwondo

In his Paralympic debut, Evan Medell won a bronze medal in the men’s taekwondo K44 +75kg at the Makuhari Messe Hall B on Sept. 4. Medell defeated Costa Rica’s’ Andres Esteban Molina Gomez 13-11 in the bronze medal match. Medell etches his name in the history books as the first Team USA Paralympic athlete to medal in the sport as Tokyo marks the debut of Para taekwondo on the Paralympic program. Medell first gained international experience in the sport when he won bronze in the 2017 World Para Taekwondo Championships (K44 +75kg).
