TEMECULA, Calif. – Ashlyn Edwards scored two goals in the first and one in the second half to help pace the SDCC women's soccer team over Arizona Christian on Thursday.

 

The win snaps a 6-game skid

for the Hawks and improves their record to 2-6 overall with a 1-2 conference mark. ACU falls to 3-6-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in the GSAC.

 

Edwards scored early off a pass from Emilie Larson in the sixth minute. The Firestorm quickly answered with a goal eight minutes later.

 

With two minutes to play in the first, Edwards struck again off a pass from Andrea Young to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead heading into the break. SDCC outshot the Firestorm 7-5 in the first 45 minutes of play.

 

In the 67th minute, Edwards delivered another goal for a hat-trick. She received a through ball from Isabella Coronado. Edwards outpaced the defense and slotted the ball past the Firestorm keeper. Coronado capped the scoring for SDCC in the 76th minute. Devon Molina's corner kick found Coronado in the middle of the field. She was able to collect it and blast it in for the Hawks' fourth goal.

 

The Firestorm were able to add a late goal but it wasn't enough giving SDCC head coach Gerardo Hidalgo his first conference win at the helm.

 

Edwards led the team with seven shots, with five finding the frame. Kassandra Ramirez tallied five saves and allowed the two goals.

 

SDCC will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday as they host OUAZ at 12 p.m. at Mesa College.
