No. 19 Golden Eagles Post A Shutout Over Pioneers



LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team returned to University Stadium for the first time since Sept. 10 and continued its winning ways in conference play.

The No. 19 Golden Eagles got a first-half goal

from Anton Olofsson and a pair of second half goals to beat Cal State East Bay, 3-0, Friday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest. Cal State LA (5-2-1, 3-0 CCAA) remains in a first-place tie with Cal State Dominguez Hills atop the CCAA standings with nine points. The Golden Eagles stretched their conference winning streak to nine games and their conference unbeaten streak to 17 with the victory.

Alvaro Unanua had another outstanding game in goal and recorded four saves for his fifth shutout of the season.

Cal State LA had a 17-12 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Lucas RosalesDaniel Yu and Aidan Wait had three shots each to lead the way.

Cal State LA took a quick 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Anton Olofsson did the scoring honors, notching his third goal of the season. David Elizaga sent in a beautiful pass and Olofsson beat Cal State East Bay goalkeeper Kelekolio Mateo, Jr. to the ball and was able to knock a shot into an open net for the goal.

The score stayed that way until midway through the second half when the Golden Eagles scored twice in a three-minute span to put the game out of reach. Ryan Candelario scored the first goal of his Cal State LA career in the 64th minute with assists from Aidan Wait and Jose Orellana. Wait sent a pass in towards goal and Candelario got to it just before colliding with the Pioneer goalkeeper and shot it into the net. 

Daniel Yu completed the scoring in the 67th minute with the first goal of his Cal State LA career. He completed a nifty give-and-go with Wait and fired a shot inside the far post to make it 3-0. The assist was the second of the game for Wait and his third of the season.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home game at Stanislaus State.
