Three U.S. Athletes Head to Third Junior Grand Prix Series Event in Slovakia

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (Aug. 31, 2021) - Three U.S. athletes are headed to the third event of the 2021 International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (JGP) Series this week in Kosice, Slovakia. The competition starts on Thursday, Sept. 2, with the men’s, pairs and women’s short programs. The rhythm dance, men’s free skate and pairs free skate will take place on Friday, Sept. 3. The event will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 4., with the free dance and women’s free skate.

In the women’s competition, both Mia Kalin and Ava Ziegler will be making their JGP debut in Slovakia. Ziegler is the 2021 U.S. junior

pewter medalist. Kalin, who trains in Oakland, California, placed eighth at the 2021 U.S. Championships at the junior level.

In the men’s competition, Will Annis will take the ice in his second JGP event. The 2019 U.S. novice champion placed 12th at the 2019 JGP event in Russia. Annis recently earned the silver medal at the 2021 Cranberry Cup at the junior level.

Entering its 24th season, the ISU Junior Grand Prix Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events). Depending on the developments during the JGP Series, the ISU Council will evaluate if and how the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2021 (scheduled to be held on December 9-12, 2021, in Osaka, Japan) could be held by applying alternative qualification criteria.

The ISU will stream the event live on its YouTube page. Fans can follow along on the JGP Series Competition Central page on the U.S. Figure Skating Fan Zone
