Anastasia Pagonis Breaks World Record to Win Team USA’s First Gold in Tokyo

 In world record fashion, Anastasia Pagonis broke her own world record en route to becoming Team USA’s first Paralympic champion after a first-place finish in the women’s 400m freestyle S11 on Thursday at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.


Pagonis first broke the world record during the U.S. Team Trials in Minneapolis, Minn. on June 17, 2021, with a time of 4:56.16 and shattered her own record with a 4:54.49 mark while making her Paralympic debut.
