Griswold and Long Add to Team USA’s Swimming Medal Count

Two-time Paralympian Robert Griswold won Team USA’s third gold medal and clocked a world record with a time of 1:02.55 in the men’s 100m backstroke S8. Griswold first experienced the glory of standing on the Paralympic podium

when he took home bronze in the 100m back during the Rio Games (1:04.68). The 24-year-old broke the standing mark (1:02.90) that was set by China’s Cong Zhou in Rio.

13-time Paralympic champion Jessica Long added to her long list of accolades with a bronze finish in the women's 100m backstroke S8. Long is competing in her fifth Paralympic Games and has totaled 24 Paralympic medals including six silver and collects her fifth bronze on day three of the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. The Baltimore native will compete in four more individual events and returns to the pool tomorrow afternoon to compete in the women's 200m individual medley.
