COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 25, 2021) – Two players and a member of team support will join the U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo this week.
Alternates Nichole Millage and Annie Flood
will join the team in Tokyo and will be on the U.S. roster for the Paralympic Games along with sport psychologist Adam O’Neil.
Millage will compete in her fourth Paralympic Games in Tokyo. She won a gold medal in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and silver medals in London 2012 and Beijing 2008.
Flood will make her Paralympic debut.
The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team canceled a planned pre-Paralympic training week in the Japanese city of Ichinomiya out of health concerns. Some players and coaches are already in Tokyo, however the majority of the team will arrive on Aug. 26.
“This past week has been very difficult for us all,” U.S. Head Coach Bill Hamiter said. “There has been stress, disappointment and uncertainty.
“I am hoping that we can move past that and get to work on defending our gold medal.”
The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team is ranked No. 1 and the defending Paralympic gold medalist. It is scheduled to begin Paralympic competition on Aug. 28 at 1 a.m. ET (midnight CT and 2 p.m. in Tokyo) against Rwanda.
