Raymond Martin took home a Paralympic silver in the men's 400m T51 and current world record holder Lex Gillette added an astonishing fifth silver medal to his collection in men's long jump T11 on Friday night at the Tokyo Stadium.
Martin posted a season-best time of 55.59, that
would have broken the Paralympic record in the event but was narrowly edged out by Japan’s Tomoki Sato who snagged gold at 55.39. The previous Paralympic record was 57.25 set during the Paralympic Games Beijing 2008 and is approaching the world record of 55.13. Martin is making his third Paralympic appearance and continues his impressive Paralympic success by registering his eighth medal (6 golds, 2 silvers).A seasoned veteran and five-time Paralympian, Gillette recorded an impressive fifth Paralympic medal with a 6.17 mark. Gillette has earned a silver medal in the men’s long jump in each of his previous four Paralympic Games. The Raleigh, N.C. native still owns the world record in the event when he posted an incredible feat of 6.73 on May 10, 2014. China’s Dongdong di finished in first place with a jump of 6.47.
