Weggemann and Lettenberger Bring 1-2 Punch in Women’s 200m IM SM7

Three-time Paralympian Mallory Weggemann picked up her first medal of the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 after winning gold in the women's 200m individual medley SM7.

Weggemann’s swim set a Paralympic record in

the preliminary races with a time of 2:54.25 before grabbing the first-place finish in the finals after clocking in 2:55.28. The victory gives Weggemann her third Paralympic medal and first since taking gold (50m freestyle) and bronze (4x100m medley) at London 2012.

Coming in right behind her was fellow Team USA athlete Ahalya Lettenberger, who took home the silver. Lettenberger’s Paralympic debut didn’t disappoint as she swam to second with a time of 3:02.82. She’ll dive off the blocks again when she races the women's 400m freestyle S7 final on August 31.
