Waves Still in Fourth at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- An even-par 70 by Robbie Geibel paced the Pepperdine men's golf team on Tuesday as the Waves maintained hold of fourth place after two rounds of the 70th annual Western Intercollegiate.

In the play-six, count-five event at the par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Club, the #39 Waves have a two-day total of a 5-over 705 (348-357). Pepperdine trails #9 Stanford, #26 Oregon and #1 USC, but leads four top 25 teams (#7 Arizona State, #15 California, #21 San Diego State and #25 Washington) and five of the eight Pac-12 schools in the field.

The third and final round is today, Wednesday.

While Geibel is one of five Waves in the top 30, the top one on the leaderboard is senior Frederick
Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS), who is tied for eighth place with a 1-under 139 (68-71). Freshman Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) is tied for 14th place with an even-par 140 (69-71).

Geibel (Pembroke Pines, Fla./American Heritage HS/Louisville), a junior, moved up to a tie for 19th place with a 1-over 141 (71-70). His day included 16 pars to go with one birdie and one bogey.
Freshman Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) is tied for 24th place at 142 (69-73). Junior Cody McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) is tied for 30th at 143 (71-72). Freshman Lorenzo Magagnin (Treviso, Italy) is tied for 84th place at 158 (79-79).

Tuesday's birdie leaders were Cootes with five, Wedel with four, and McManus and Theegala with three apiece.
