Pepperdine Women's Golf Streak Ends With Third-Place Finish

DANVILLE, Calif. – Marissa Chow wrapped up the West Coast Conference Championships with a 3-under 69 on Wednesday, highlighting the Pepperdine women’s golf team’s efforts, but the Waves saw their streak of league titles come to an end with a third-place finish.

The Waves had won 14 in a row coming into the 2016 competition, but BYU entered as the favorite this year and captured its first WCC title with a three-day total of 884. Gonzaga came in second at 887 and the Waves were third at 892 (293-301-298) at the par-72 Blackhawk Country Club. Pepperdine has won 17 of the 20 WCC Championships ever contested.

Freshmen Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) and Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) were the
Waves’ top finishers, as both tied for ninth place with 6-over 222s. Wong shot 71-72-79 and Naveed was at 72-77-73. Naveed had four birdies on Wednesday, including each of her final three holes. Wong had three birdies.

A strong final round by Chow (Honolulu, Hawai’i/Iolani HS) moved the senior up to 11th place at 223 (74-80-69). Chow had three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 11th hole.

Freshman Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai’i/IMG Academy) tied for 16th at 230 (76-77-77) and sophomore Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) tied for 21st at 234 (79-75-80).

NCAA Regional bids will be announced next Monday (April 25) at 3 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
