SANTA MONICA, Calif. –
The Pepperdine beach volleyball squad won the first-ever West Coast
Conference Championships this Saturday afternoon at the Ocean Park Beach
Volleyball Courts, defeating Saint Mary’s and Loyola Marymount wit 5-0
sweeps to clinch the conference title.
After defeating Saint Mary’s with a 3-2 victory yesterday in the first round of the West Coast Conference tournament, the now 19-2 Waves swept both Loyola Marymount and Saint Mary’s en route to the first ever WCC Championship title.
After securing the 5-0 sweep over the Lions, the Waves entered the championship match-up with the Gaels of the Saint Mary’s.
In the championship match, the Watves went up 1-0 with a dominating win on court five from senior
Samantha Cash (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy) and junior Sarah Seiber
(Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS/Arizona), as the pair

Pepperdine extended the victory with a 21-11, 21-13 victory from sophomore Corinne Quiggle (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra HS) and freshman Skylar Caputo (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) on court three over Alexis Salmons and Emily Bible.
Then, the Waves clinched the first-ever conference win with a 21-14, 21-11 win on court four, delivered from freshmen pair Madalyn Roh (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral HS) and Anika Wilson (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) to Madi Wilkerson and Linsdsey Calvin.
Then the Waves’ one and two pairs completed the sweep on courts one and two, first with a two-set 21-11, 21-15 victory on court two from junior Delaney Knudsen (Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS) and freshman Kaity Bailey (Ojai, Calif./Villanova Preparatory School) over Mary Hernandez and Paytong Rudd.
Senior Taylor Racich (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS) and freshman Heidi Dyer (San Clemente, Calif./Saddleback Valley Christian HS) completed the day with the Waves’ 10th overall pairs win over Dalas Dodd and Linsdey Knudsen with a 19-21, 21-11 and 21-12 result to take the victory.
In the first match of the day, Pepperdine won all courts with two set victories. First, Roh and Wilson won on court four over LMU’s Lindsay Carr and Veronica Nederend with a 21-14, 21-9 final mark. Then, one’ pair Dyer and Racich bested Rachelle Suava and Avery Bush with a 21-10, 21-12 decision to go up 2-0 over the Lions.
Pepperdine clinched the spot in the finals with a 21-17, 21-11 victory on court three as Quiggle and Caputo defeated Jamie Lea and Tatiana Schange with a 21-14, 21-9 final mark to go up 3-0 on the morning. The Waves finished out the sweep with victories on courts two and five first finding Cash and Seiber besting Sara Kovac and Kristen Castellanos 21-12 and 28-26 before the twos Bailey and Knudsen downed Sascha Dominique and Kekai Whitford with a 16-21, 21-16, 15-11 final decision to own the sweep!
