REDLANDS, Calif. — Guarina Garcia scored five goals, Megan Little
added four and the University of La Verne women's water polo team took
care of Redlands, 13-9, to advance to the semifinal of the 2016 SCIAC
Championships.
The Leopards will play the winner of the Pomona-Pitzer versus Cal Lutheran matchup on Saturday (today) at 1:45 p.m.
La Verne scored four of the game's first five goals and led wire-to-wire.
Annie Kinney scored the last goal of the first quarter for Redlands
and Rachel Nelson opened the scoring in the second to get the Bulldogs
within 4-3, but that was as close as it would get. The Leopards
responded with eight unanswered goals stretching into late third quarter
to grab a 11-3 lead and seal the win. Little and Garcia each had three
goals during the stretch.
Rosero finished with three goals and Emily Randall added one marker for the Leopards.
Cambria Serrano made 10 saves, including four in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs attempted a late rally.
