SEATTLE - No. 19 Stanford got back in the win
column on Friday afternoon, cruising past No. 47 Washington 6-1 to begin
its Pacific Northwest road swing.
The Cardinal (11-5, 6-1 Pac-12), which still has an outside shot at
the Pac-12 regular-season title with No. 1 California scheduled to visit
The Farm next weekend, quickly wrapped up the doubles point and
dominated singles competition.
Stanford is focused on closing strong down the stretch and
strengthening its case to host the first and second rounds of NCAA
Championships next month.
Leading 1-0, Carol Zhao easily put away Stacey Fung 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot of the lineup.
The Cardinal moved in front 3-0 following Krista Hardebeck’s
6-2, 6-2 victory over Sophia Bott on court four. Hardebeck has now won a
career-high 13 matches in a row, the most for a Stanford player since
Zhao won 15 straight before falling in last year’s NCAA singles final.
Caroline Lampl provided her team-high fourth clincher, powering past Kenadi Hance 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 position.
Washington (12-9, 3-5 Pac-12) collected its only point at the No. 6 spot.
