LA VERNE, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Golf team strung together two strong days over the weekend during the West Cup hosted by the University of La Verne.
Seventeen teams took part in the two-day event played at Sierra La Verne Country Club, playing at a par 71 and 6403 Yards.
Whittier finished 12th with a two day total of 948 (312-321-315). They ended up beating out La Verne's "B" team (13th – 950), Whitworth (14th – 954), No. 50 Occidental (15th – 957), No. 29 Chapman University (16th – 958), and Willamette University (17th – 973).
They also were close to upsetting No. 39 George Fox University (11th – 941) and No. 30 Texas Lutheran (10th – 937) coming within ten strokes of each.
Tyler Bliss (Glendora, Calif.) led the Purple & Gold finishing 16th overall. He posted all three rounds in the 70's at 73-79-76.
Tyler Hoefferle (San Dimas, Calif.) was the second Poet to finish coming in at 29th, moving up six spots after Day 1 shooting a 74-83-76.
Nicholas Medeiros (Riverside, Calif.) had a tough tournament posting only one sub 80 round. He dropped 11 spots after day one and went 82-78-81 finishing 56th.
Alex Valadez (Anaheim, Calif.) came in at 66th and he too struggled going 83-81-82 over the three rounds and Martin Bedino (Argentina) rounded out the Poet scorers coming in 81st with an 88-84-88.
Whittier prepares for their second SCIAC tournament set to take place at Brookside Golf Club this weekend, April 7-8.
