BELMONT, Calif. – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team split their fifth consecutive PacWest Conference doubleheader with a 6-4 victory and 7-6 defeat against Dominican.  The Argonauts overtook the Penguins in the first game after trailing early before surrendering a late lead in the nightcap.

Dominican wasted no time getting on the board in the opener, scoring two runs in the top of the inning despite recording just one hit.  The Argos struck back in the bottom half of the frame with a pair of runs of their own.  Alessandra Giannavola started her big day with a double to lead off the inning and came into score on a single by Aurora Adams.  After a double by Tivoli Sisco, Adams came in on a sacrifice fly by Megan Lawson to even the score.

Sofia Garcia hit her grove in the circle for the Argos, shutting down the Penguins for the next four innings and allowing just one hit.  NDNU broke the game open in the fifth inning with four runs on four hits.  Giannavola and Haley Stahl opened the frame with back-to-back singles before Adams drove in her second run of the game.  Sisco picked up a single to load the bases before Lawson and Melissa Garciaeach drew walks to score two more.  Taylor Haynes plated the final run with an RBI groundout.

The Penguins got two back in the sixth but Garcia closed the door in the seventh to earn his sixth victory of the season.  Garcia allowed just one earned run and three hits.  On the offensive side, Giannavola finished 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles.  Adams was 3 for 3 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs, giving her eight hits in her last nine at-bats.

The Argos looked to be running away with the second game, scoring five runs over the first two innings and taking a commanding lead.  Lawson drove in the first two runs with a bases loaded single in the first to make it 2-0 early.  Stahl plated two of her on in the second and Adams struck again with an RBI double to make it 5-0.

Dominican got to Delaney Pamplin for a run in the third but the Argos still took a 5-1 into the fifth inning.  The Penguins cut the deficit in half in the fifth with a pair of runs before the Argos made it 6-3 on an Alexxis Corona single.

The lead would disappear in the top half of the sixth as the visitors opened the inning with four straight singles and eventually took the lead at 7-6.  The Argos went scoreless over the final two frames to preserve the win for the Penguins.

Lawson and Corona each picked up three hits apiece while Adams and Stahl tacked on two apiece.
