Men's Tennis Fall In Close Battle With No. 7 Gustavus Adolphus

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis Team were dealt a tough 8-1 loss to No. 7 Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday night, salvaging a singles match that was won by Jacob Schoenherr. Despite the lopsided match score, the Hens came close in each other their singles matches, with three going to three sets while Jed Kronenberg got edged out by a pair of tiebreakers. The loss set the Hens back with a 12-7 record.

The Gusties brought quite the challenge in doubles as Kalyan Chadalavada and Octave Bellet fell in no. 1 doubles to Mohanad Alhouni and Patrick Whaling 8-2. Marko Mandic and Avery Bicks dropped a close battle in no. 2 to Tommy Entwistle and Chase Johnson 8-6, and Quinn Hirsohn and Jack Bernstein fell in no. 3 to Zach Ekstein and Mason Bultje 8-3.

Jed Kronenberg was extremely close to winning his no. 1 singles match, but fell on the short end of both tiebreakers to Alhouni 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3). Octave Bellet fell in no. 2 to Ekstein 7-5 and 6-0, while Josh Gearou battled out a tight three-set thriller against Chase Johnson. After dropping the first set 6-4, Gearou battled back to a close 7-5 win in the second set, but fell in a tiebreaker of the final set 7-6 (4). Mandic also came close in a three-set battle with Whaling in no. 4, falling in the first set 7-6 (0) before bouncing back 7-5. However, the senior dropped the final set 6-1. Sam Malech was unfortunate in his three-set dual with Yassine Derbani in no. 5, winning the first set 6-3 before dropping the next two 6-2 and 6-1. Jacob Schoenherr capped no. 6 on a high note, taking down Entwistle 6-0 and 6-2.
