CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team bounced back with a big 21-3 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier on Wednesday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in SCIAC play. With the win over the Poets, the Sagehens have now swept Whittier for the season series.
The Sagehens were led by Sarah Woo who tied her career-high with six goals in the win to record her fourth hat-trick of the season. Lilly Thomey continued her hat-trick streak to seven-straight games as she notched five goals in the win while Sonia Olson and Isabel Schmidt also tallied hat-tricks with three goals each.
Sal Marx had a career night in goal for the Sagehens as the senior stopped six shots while only allowing three goals in her first ever start as a goalie to pick up the win.
The Sagehens dominated play from the very first whistle as Pomona-Pitzer immediately attacked the Poets early on. The Sagehens notched three goals within the first minute of the game as Woo, Thomey and Schmidt all got off to a quick start to begin the night.
Pomona-Pitzer started off the game with the first nine goals of the game to take a 9-0 lead with 20:57 still to play in the first half.
The Poets' offense came to life briefly in the first half as they responded with two of the next three goals to trim the lead down to 10-2 but the Sagehens ended the half with five unanswered goals to take a large 15-2 lead at the break.
Pomona-Pitzer eased off of the gas in the second half as they only found the back of the net six times. The Sagehens opened up the half with four-straight goals from Schmidt, Thomey, Emma Sheridan and Belle Buroker, who scored her first collegiate goal off of a free position shot to give the Sagehens a 19-3 lead.
Whittier added one more goal to their total but the Sagehens ended the game with back-to-back goals from Woo and Sonia Olson to cap off a dominating performance at home.
