TURLOCK — On its home course, the Stanislaus State men's golf team performed to par as the Warriors posted their best team finish result of the season over two glorious days at the Turlock Golf and Country Club.

Led by team-leader Jeff Yamaguchi, the Warriors finished second, behind only winner California Baptist at the 45th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational on Tuesday. The Warriors scored a 289 in Tuesday's final round to surpass Cal State East Bay and finished ahead of Chico State as well.

Californa Baptist, riding behind the solid play of four Lancers in the top 20 captured the team championship with a 7-over, 871 team score. The Warriors were just six strokes back at 877. Cal State East Bay (879), Chico State (880) and Concordia Portland (886) rounded out the top five in the field of 14 teams.

Ben Hallam of CBU shot an impressive six-under in the final round to win individual medalist honors with a four-under 212 tournament total. Yamaguchi was second at 2-under, 214, followed by Cal State East Bay's Declan Illingsworth (215).

Hallam and Yamaguchi went head to head in the final round on Tuesday, played in the same group as the lead-pairing. Yamaguchi turned out just two birdies shy of Hallam's tally, 7-5. Yamaguchi also had two bogeys to start the back nine. The duo were teammates at Reedly College two seasons ago.

For Stan State, the second place was the team's best during the 2017-18 season. It was also the Warriors' second consecutive top five tournament finish this spring.

Two other Warriors also made the top 20 in the leaderboard. Chad Kubes was four-over 220 for 13th and Jahaan Nargussi finished strong with an one-under round three for a six-over 222 total in 17th. Tim Sauer (224) and Michael Jura (226) also figured in the team scoring.

Playing as individuals were Haytham Yousif (232), Conner Chuhlantseff (237) and Brad Sparrer (242).

The Warriors will be off until April 23 for the first round of the CCAA Men's Golf Championships, at Butte Creek Country Club in Chico. Stan State will be looking to defend its conference championship title.
