Pomona-Pitzer 13, Redlands 5
The Sagehen's offense lit up the Bulldogs in the first game of the doubleheader, as every hitter that stepped up to the plate got on base. Liz Rodarte led the offense with a 2-for-4 showing with a home run and two runs, while Taylor Lehner, Makensey Druckman, and Karina Falkstrom had two RBIs each. On the mound, Rodarte earned her seventh win of the season after pitching seven innings with five strikeouts and getting charged with only one run.
In the top of the first inning, the Sagehens jumped to an early lead after Izzy Deatherage hit a hard grounder through the left side of the field to score a runner from third base. Later in the top of the second inning, with two outs and runners on first and second, Taylor Lehner skipped a hard grounder through the left side for an RBI single. Falkstrom followed with a base-clearing double to make it 4-0.
The Sagehens continued to deliver damage in the top of the third inning, when Olivia Campion hit a solo home run over left field. Later after a single by Kristen Hong, Megan Otsuka drilled an opposite field triple to extend the lead 6-0.
Trouble brewed in the bottom of the fourth when the Bulldogs scored two runs off a single by Hayley DiMase. The Bulldogs battled again in the bottom of the fifth off another two-run single, this time by Tyesen Gordon, cutting the deficit 6-4.
Rodarte brought some insurance in the top of the sixth when she crushed a home run over left field. Later with runners on first and second, Druckman extended the lead with an RBI single. Hong added two runs with a single to right field to extend the lead 10-4.
The Sagehens continued to bring the damage in the top of the seventh, tacking on three more to put the game out of reach.
Pomona-Pitzer 6, Redlands 5 (9 Innings)
The Bulldogs refused to back down after dropping the first game, almost coming back against the Sagehens in game two, but Pomona-Pitzer held it down thanks to the go-ahead RBI groundout by Megan Otsuka in the top of the ninth inning. Liz Rodarte earned her eighth win of the season after pitching three shutout innings of relief with five strikeouts and batted 2-for-3. Olivia Campion had a tremendous performance at the place, hitting 2-for-5 with four RBIs, including a home run.
Izzy Deatherage helped the Sagehens jump to an early lead with an RBI single in the top of the first. Later, with two outs and runners on first and second, Campion drilled a home run over left field to give the Sagehens a 4-0 lead. However, the Bulldogs managed to score one in the bottom of the first to cut the lead 4-1.
After being shut out from the second through fourth inning, the Bulldogs managed to chip away, tacking on one run in the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bulldogs managed to take the lead with a two-run triple by DiMase, followed by an RBI single from Jordyn Smith to go ahead 5-4.
With one out and a runner on first and third, Campion tied the game with a single up the middle.
Rodarte took the mound in the bottom of the seventh to pitch relief, and shut out the Bulldogs for three innings. In the top of the ninth, Deatherage led off with a triple and scored on a groundout by Otsuka.
The Bulldogs almost continued the extra inning affair when they led off the bottom of the ninth with a triple. However, Rodarte diffused the situation with a three straight strikeouts to clinch the victory.
