CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team came away with a doubleheader win against non-conference opponent Bowdoin by the scores 1-0 and 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: with the wins, the Sagehens improve to 10-3 overall this season.

Pomona-Pitzer 1, Bowdoin 0
The Sagehens were led by junior Jeremy Jess who had the only two hits of the game for the Sagehens including a towering solo shot to complete his 2-3 performance.

Junior Tyler Yoshihara got the start on the mound in game one and registered a complete game (7 innings) shutout with just five hits and six strikeouts for his fourth win of the season.

The Sagehen defense along with Yoshihara played sensational against the Polar Bears with no errors in the game and limited Bowdoin to very few scoring positions.

The difference of the game came in the bottom of the fourth as Jess blasted his third homerun of the season to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead. It was all Yoshihara and the defense from that point on as the Sagehens held on for the 1-0 win.

Pomona-Pitzer 6, Bowdoin 1
The Sagehens were led by junior Nolan McCafferty who went 2-3 with two RBI in the win. Junior Ethan Baer earned the win in game two going five innings with seven hits and surrendered one run with four strikeouts.

Bowdoin struck first in game two in the top of the second after a RBI single gave them a 1-0 lead. Pomona-Pitzer responded with four in the bottom half of the second inning. Sophomore Michael Hill got the scoring going with a sacrifice fly to right field followed by another sac fly by sophomore Seth Stone to give the Sagehens a 2-1 lead. The Sagehens added two more after McCafferty smashed a double to left field to bring home first-year Jack Damelio and junior Jack Hanley to take a 4-1 lead over the Bears.

The Sagehens added one more run in the fourth and the fifth as first-year Adrian Banales scored on an error and Damelio singled home a run in the sixth to extend the lead to 6-1.

First-year Gabe Garcia and junior Luka Green came on in relief and posted hitless eighth and ninth innings as the Sagehens complete the doubleheader sweep over the Polar Bears.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host Puget Sound on Tuesday, March 19th at 11:00 a.m.
