No. 24 USC Lacrosse Takes Down Terriers For 16-11 Win

Three Trojans scored hat tricks in a five-goal victory in Boston

BOSTON – The 24th-ranked USC lacrosse team (4-1) defeated Boston University (3-2) by five goals, 16-11, at Nickerson Field on Sunday, March 3.
 
KEY PLAYERS

• Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Huff led the Trojans with five points (4g, 1a) and secured her eighth-career hat trick. She scored two of her goals from free position and had a caused turnover and ground ball.
• Junior midfielder Kaeli Huff also scored four goals and had her sixth-career hat trick to go with two caused turnovers.
• Junior attacker Izzy McMahon had three goals for her eighth-career hat trick and matched a career best with four draw controls and added a pair of ground balls.
• Freshman attacker Katie Ramsay scored two goals and picked up three draw controls.
• In goal, sophomore Riley Hertford had four saves and grabbed a career-high seven ground balls with two caused turnovers.
• For Boston University, Mackenzie Howe, Kailey Conry, Hannah Kenneally, and Makenzie Irvine each had two goals apiece. Conry led all players with seven points and had five assists. Kennady Smith had eight saves in relief effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Women of Troy opened the game with a 5-1 burst over 14 minutes and got two goals apiece from the Huff sisters. For the next 15 minutes, the teams traded goals until USC went into the break with an 8-4 lead.
• BU scored the first goal of the second half and went on its own 4-1 run from 17:33 to 12:44 to pull within two goals, 12-10.
• Kelsey Huff broke the short BU run with her goal from free position and then Kaeli Huff scored unassisted and on a feed from Sophia Donovanto give the Trojans a 15-10 lead. One more goal from each side made the final score 16-11 for USC.

UP NEXT

• The Trojans open league play on the road at Arizona State (2-1) on Friday (March 8) at the Sun Devil Soccer and Lacrosse Field in Tempe, Ariz. First draw is set for 5 p.m. MT (4 p.m. PT) and the game will be shown on a Pac-12+ stream. USC plays its next home game on Sunday (March 10) when Virginia Tech visits McAlister Field for a noon start.

GAME NOTES

• USC improved to 2-0 against Boston University and won its first-ever game in the state of Massachusetts to improve to 1-5 in the Bay State. The Trojans also improved to 13-13 overall in games played on the East Coast.
