Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by first-year Zoe Puccia who netted two goals in the loss. First-year's Eleanor Mackey and Jessalyn Simon-Parker had one goal each along with sophomore Sarah Woo who also netted a goal in the loss.
The two teams got out to a slow start on offense with neither team registering a goal within the first eight minutes of the first half. The Athenas then got their offense going with the first five goals of the game to take an early 5-0 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer got on the board with nine minutes left to go until halftime after Puccia netted a goal off of an assist from Simon-Parker to cut the lead down to 5-1 but CMS ended the half with two more goals to extend the lead to 7-1 at the break.
The Sagehens came out and won the second half as they outscored the Athenas 4-2. CMS jumped out ahead with two of the first three goals of the half to take a 9-2 lead with 23:19 left to go. Pomona-Pitzer's offense began to get going after Mackey scored a goal with a man up and Woo followed up with a goal four minutes later to cut the lead down to 9-4.
The Sagehens added one more as Puccia netted her second goal of the game to trim the lead down to 9-5 but the Sagehens didn't have enough time to complete their comeback as they fell to CMS 9-5.
