Vanguard 15, UC Davis 12
The Lions like matching up against the Aggies, as they have won both matchups over the past two seasons. Vanguard and UC Davis were tied at two points each after the first quarter before the Pride held a 6-5 edge going into the intermission. During the third frame, the Blue and Gold built a lead which would turn out to be insurmountable, winning all four awarded points in the frame. The fourth quarter went the way of UC Davis, but the victory was already in hand for the Lions.
Vanguard 14, Concordia 13 (OT)
In contrast, the Pride found themselves in a much different situation in the second game of the day. After the first quarter of play, the Eagles were on top 4-1 and at the halftime break CUI led 6-4. In the third frame, the Lions slowly chipped away at the lead and went into the fourth quarter down just one point. Across the three routines in quarter four, the Blue and Gold manage to score one more point than the Eagles and force the first overtime period in program history. Vanguard went on to win the lone point and secure the victory.
A STUNT match has four quarters. The first three periods all feature four routines with the final fourth quarter containing only three routines. Quarter 1 is partner stunts, Quarter 2 is Pyramids, Quarter 3 is Jumps and Tumbling, and Quarter 4 is team routine where the previous three quarters are combined. Routines in the first three frames average around 30 seconds each whereas the fourth quarter routines are over 90 seconds each. There are seven levels of routines a team can perform ranging from beginner (1) to advanced (7), with step becoming slightly more challenging.
Next Match: Saturday, March 16th at 6:30 p.m. against BYU in Irvine
