Pioneer Baseball Splits Sunday Twinbill Against Cal Poly Pomona

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team split their home doubleheader against the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos Sunday afternoon, April 8 at Pioneer Field.
 
With the twinbill split the Pioneers move to 16-17 on the season and a mark of 13-14 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) competition.
 
The opening game featured the visiting CPP Broncos pick up their first win of the series with a, 7-0 shutout victory over CSUEB.
 
Despite the outcome the ball game the Pioneers were able to rattle off six hits in the contest. Kyosuke Ushimaru (Tokyo, Japan) led East Bay with two hits on the afternoon. Dallas Dey (Tustin, Calif.), Dakota Conners (Manteca, Calif.), Colt Parshall (Oakdale, Calif) and Jacob Eder (Prescott, Ariz.) all chipped one hit apiece. Dey also added a stolen base.
 
Donavon Ramirez (San Jose, Calif.) got the start on the mound for East Bay and did not allow any hits while fanning one batter in his only inning of action. Ransome Alexander (L, 0-2) (Fullerton, Calif.) gave up one hit and one walk for CSUEB. Joe Blair (Modesto, Calif.) did not allow any hits nor runs in his time on the mound. RJ Hanson led the Poineers with three strikeouts and no walks through six innings of work.
 
In the doubleheader finale, both teams were scoreless until the third innings with CPP scored the first run of the game. Cal State East Bay would respond with runs in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth innings to secure the, 3-1 victory.
 
Dallas Dey finished the game with yet another hit and a stolen base. Kyosuke Ushimaru doubled and scored a run for East Bay. Colt Parshall added a hit and a run scored.
 
Adam Hollar (Livermore, Calif.) logged in a hit and drove in an RBI. Matt Cantelme (Fair Oaks, Calif.) tripled and scored a run for the Pioneers. Paul Bryniarski (Fountain Hills, Calif.) and Evan Steele (Clovis, Calif.) each recorded RBI's for CSUEB.
 
Andrew Fernandez (W, 2-4) (Castro Valley, Calif.) struck out two Bronco batters while only allowing two walks and one earned run during his six innings of action. Jordan Milligan (San Jose, Calif.) got the start for CSUEB and allowed no runs in his inning on the mound.
