Panthers Claw Past Regals

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran women's tennis team got singles wins from Christie Kurdys and Gianna Cupo, but the Regals lost to the Chapman Panthers 7-2 Friday afternoon at the Poulson Tennis Center.

It was the second conference game of the year for the Regals. They dropped to 0-2 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and are now 3-9 overall. Chapman improved to 3-1 and 9-6.

Cal Lutheran won at the top spots in singles play. Kurdys claimed the No. 1 spot and made quick work of her opponent with scores of 6-2, 6-3. Cupo took the win at the No. 3. She didn't even allow Chapman to score a point in the first set as she won 6-0. Cupo was then up 4-1 before her opponent retired, giving her the match win.

Chapman claimed the other four singles wins as they took the matches in straight sets. Sarah Seeman fell at the No. 2 (6-0, 6-2), Annette Sousa came up short at the No. 4 (6-2, 6-0), Nicole Neumann dropped her match at the No. 5 (6-3, 6-2) and Jade Moore lost at the No. 6 (6-1, 6-1).

The Panthers also won all three doubles matches and won the dual 7-2. Kurdys and Cupo lost at the No. 1 (8-5), Seeman and Sousa fell at the No. 2 (8-5) and Neumann and Moore were defeated at the No. 3 (8-2).
