The Bruins were led by senior Anthony Daboub, who tied his career-high with three goals against the Anteaters. UCLA improved to 74-59-1 all-time against UC Irvine.
UCLA exploded for six goals in the first period and never looked back, cruising to an easy victory.
Junior Chancellor Ramirez got the Bruins started seconds into the match, scoring a goal from the
front court at the 7:43 mark. Junior Ryder Roberts made it 2-0 with another goal from the front court (5:38). Sophomore Matt Farmer put UCLA up 3-0 with a goal from two meters (4:50). Daboub continued the scoring run with a goal from the front court (4:00). Former Bruin Lovre Milos got the Anteaters on the board, scoring after an ordinary foul (2:10). Junior Patrick Fellner (1:31) and sophomore Max Irving (1:11) scored a power play goal and on a counter, respectively, to push the lead to 6-1. Ryan Warde ended the scoring in the first with a finish off a drive (0:53) to cut the lead to 6-2.
UCLA pitched a shutout in the second period, tacking on two more goals to build an 8-2 lead at the break. Junior Gordon Marshall scored on a 6-on-5 opportunity (6:18) and Daboub added his second on a counter (3:18) for UCLA in the quarter.
Jared Osborn opened the scoring in the third for UCI with an exclusion goal (6:52) to cut it to 8-3.
Then Daboub completed his hat trick (5:59) with a goal from the front court, followed by another front court score, this time by redshirt freshman Austin Rone (5:15) to put UCLA up 10-3. Roberts then added a second goal on a 6-on-5 opportunity (4:42), ending the scoring in third period with UCLA leading 11-3.
Junior Patrick Woepse scored from set to open the fourth quarter scoring, giving the Bruins a 12-3 edge (2:29). After another goal by UCI's Osborn (1:22) made it 12-4, sophomore James Robinson connected from the front court (0:14) to provide the 13-4 final.
Junior Garrett Danner started in the cage and played the first three periods, registering nine saves while allowing three goals. He was also credited with one assist. Freshman Alex Wolf came on in relief in the fourth, making four saves while surrendering just one goal. Dylan Peterson started in goal for UC Irvine, playing the first half, tallying five saves while giving up eight goals. Byron Rivers played in goal in the second half, registering three saves while allowing five goals.
UCLA went 3-for-6 on power plays while UC Irvine went 1-for-4. The Bruins failed to convert their only penalty shot while UCI did not attempt one.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow morning at 10:40 a.m. in the first semifinal of the Kap7 SoCal Invitational. They will meet the winner of No. 4 California/No. 5 Pacific at Pepperdine's Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.
