LOS ANGELES – UCLA director of track and field
Mike Maynard announced the 2016 schedule. The Bruins will compete in six
indoor meets and then head to an outdoor slate that features 12 meets,
including five at Drake Stadium.
“We are excited about our competition schedule for the upcoming 2016 indoor and outdoor seasons,” Maynard said.
UCLA opens the season at a familiar spot, competing at the NAU Team
Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Jan. 16. After the multi athletes
head to Kansas State on Jan. 22, UCLA travels to Lincoln, Neb., for the
prestigious Frank Sevigne Husker Invite on Feb. 5.
“This year we have added the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite to our
schedule,” Maynard said. “It’s a
high level meet, and will give us an
opportunity to compete against some of the best talent and teams from
across the country.”
The Bruins wrap up the regular indoor season with the Husky Invite in
on Feb. 12. UCLA opens the postseason slate back in Seattle for the
MPSF Championship on Feb. 26. The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held
in Birmingham, Ala., on March 11.
The outdoor campaign opens on March 5 in Fullerton with the Ben Brown
Invitational. UCLA will then host three meets in a row at Drake
Stadium. The Jim Bush Collegiate Invitational is scheduled for Tuesday,
March 22 and will feature Arizona and Washington State and will once
again be aired live on the Pac-12 Networks.
The Legends Invitational will be a two-day meet and will begin on
April 1 while the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational is
slated for April 9.
“We kick off our home schedule on March 22 with the Jim Bush
Collegiate featuring UCLA versus Arizona and WSU,” Maynard said. “The
meet will be televised live once again on the Pac-12 Networks “Live
Track Tuesday”. The highly successful Legends of T&F Invitational
which includes Kansas State along with other top collegiate and high
school talent will be held on April 1 and 2.
This year’s Legends meet will also feature a distance carnival style
schedule on Friday evening. The Rafer/JJK invitational will feature
collegiate powerhouse Florida State along with some of the area’s top
elites, including many Olympians and Olympic hopefuls from the Olympic
Training Center in Chula Vista. This is an Olympic year, and the level
of competition promises to be truly exceptional.”
After a trip to the Mt. SAC Relays, UCLA will host Texas A&M in a
dual meet at Drake Stadium on April 16. Then after the Triton
Invitational in San Diego, UCLA will host rival USC on Sunday, May 1.
The outdoor postseason will begin on May 7 with the multi portion of
the Pac-12 Championships while the main event starts on May 14. The
University of Washington will host the championship this season on the
Husky Track.
Eugene will once again be the host city for the NCAA Championships as
the best in the nation will convene on historic Hayward Field on June
8-11.
