UNDER SECRETARY FOR CIVILIAN SECURITY, DEMOCRACY, AND HUMAN RIGHTS MARIA OTERO

Under Secretary Otero is on foreign travel to Chile, Peru, and Uruguay through January 19 to meet with government officials and civil society representatives on a range of issues, including on human rights, TIP, social inclusion, youth engagement, democracy promotion, and counternarcotics efforts. In Santiago, Chile, she participates in the Second Regional Latin America Conference of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), organized by the Government of Chile, and delivers keynote remarks at a Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Day of Action. In Montevideo, Uruguay, she attends the soft launch of Embassy Montevideo’s Youth Council.

Assistant Secretary Jones is in on foreign travel in Santiago, Chile through January 10 to lead the U.S. delegation and co-chair the sixth meeting of the U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement’s Environmental Affairs Council and the fourth meeting of the U.S.-Chile Environmental Cooperation Agreement Joint Commission for Environmental Cooperation. Assistant Secretary Jones will also meet with the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce, local NGOs, and senior officials from the Chilean Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
