USA Basketball Men’s National Team point guard Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards), who was placed under USA Basketball's health and safety protocols Wednesday, will remain in health and safety protocols and will be unable to participate in the July 23-August 8 Tokyo Olympic Games. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 5, 2021) – The FIVB announced the pools for the beach volleyball tournament at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Monday. All 24 men’s teams and 24 women’s teams learned their pool play opponents, including the four U.S. pairs.

The Olympic beach volleyball schedule has not yet been finalized, but pool play will run from July 24-July 21, and knockout matches begin August 1. The women’s medal matches will be played Friday, August 6, and the men’s on Saturday, August 7.

Beach National Team Hits Gstaad 4-star

Country Quota Results

Allie Wheeler/Corinne Quiggle have advanced through the U.S. country quota and will compete in Tuesday’s qualification round. In the first round of Country Quota matches, Wheeler/Quiggle rallied from a first-set defeat to beat Terese Cannon/Kelly Reeves, 2-1 (19-21, 21-19, 15-11). They then swept Delaney Knudsen/Brooke Sweat, 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) for the qualification berth.

Having already won medals at two one-star events this year, this is the duo’s first experience advancing through a four-star event’s country quota. Wheeler/Quiggle will face Canadian pair Amanda Harnett/Alina Dormann in the first round of qualification on Tuesday, July 6.

Callan to Step Down as USA Basketball Women’s National Team Director

Colorado Springs, Colorado (July 5, 2021) – Carol Callan, USA Basketball’s Women’s National Team Director since February 1995, will step down after the Tokyo Olympic Games. She will focus on her role as president of FIBA Americas, a position she was elected to by the International Basketball Federation’s Zone Board in June 2019 for a four-year term becoming the first female to hold this position.  In addition, Callan, who will be enshrined into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in August, will consult for USA Basketball’s newly formed Foundation working on initiatives surrounding championing women and youth & sport development. USA Basketball Women’s National Team will be going for its seventh consecutive gold medal in Olympic competition in Tokyo. Callan has been the director for each of the previous six Olympic gold medals, and during her tenure, the USA women have also captured five FIBA World Cup gold medals.
