Colorado Springs, Colorado (July 5, 2021) – Carol Callan, USA Basketball’s Women’s National Team Director since February 1995, will step down after the Tokyo Olympic Games. She will focus on her role as president of FIBA Americas, a position she was elected to by the International Basketball Federation’s Zone Board in June 2019 for a four-year term becoming the first female to hold this position.
In addition, Callan, who will be enshrined into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in August, will consult for USA Basketball’s newly formed Foundation working on initiatives surrounding championing women and youth & sport development.
USA Basketball Women’s National Team will be going for its seventh consecutive gold medal in Olympic competition in Tokyo. Callan has been the director for each of the previous six Olympic gold medals, and during her tenure, the USA women have also captured five FIBA World Cup gold medals. |
