Parallel's foundational offering, the MD-03 Protocol™, takes its name from Microbiome Dermatology in three steps: 1) test and discover a patient's skin microbiome, 2) collaborate on clinical care, and 3) provide the right custom compounded Rx and/or phage serum, matched from Parallel's growing biobanks. For most patients, a matching phage already exists within these biobanks. But sometimes it doesn't. Some patients carry a bacterial strain that is simply uncommon or has never been identified. These hard-to-target bacteria can show up in long-standing, chronic skin issues, where the bacterial makeup has evolved or grown resistant to conventional treatment, or in other instances, for example, in body odor cases, where the bacteria behind a person's unique scent profile can differ dramatically from one person to the next. The CPD-01 Protocol™ was built for these patients: the next tier above MD-03™, for when the right phage doesn't yet exist and must be created.

When a patient's bacterial strain cannot be matched against existing biobanks, Parallel’s scientific team isolates that bacteria directly from the patient and works to develop a unique phage specifically targeting the issue-causing bacteria. This more involved development and formulation process can take three to twelve months, depending on the target bacteria. The result is formulated into a personalized cosmeceutical topical, made for one person's biology.
