Dixie State Invitational Final Results
HURRICANE, UTAH – With another phenomenal performance in the tournament's final round, junior Sterling Hawkins posted a career-low, 69 (-3) to take home the individual title at the Dixie State Invitational.
Hawkins led after the first round when she posted an even 72, but
improved three strokes in day two to maintain her lead. Overall, she
outpaced the competition by three strokes, shooting a 141 in the
two-round competition. The win is the first for the San Jose, Calif.
native, coming on the heels of an NCAA National Championship berth in the spring of 2016.
Junior Shu-lin Lin
came in second for the Urban Knights and tied for 18th overall. The
Game Development major shot a 75 on day two (a one-stroke improvement
over her day one total). Rounding out the top three was freshman Elan Hawkins. After posting a 75 (+3) in the first round, she shot a 79 (+7) on the final day to place 30th overall.
Academy of Art has had an impressive start to the season which has seen
an Urban Knight take home the individual title in back-to-back
tournaments. Now, ART U will look to keep their momentum alive when they
head to Rohnert Park, Calif. to compete at the Sonoma State
Intercollegiate Golf Invitational October 17-18.
