LOS ANGELES, California - Isaac Hamilton scored 21 points and
Bryce Alford finished with 18 as the UCLA basketball team dropped an
86-82 decision to Oregon State in the Bruins’ final regular-season game
on Saturday in Pauley Pavilion.
UCLA senior Tony Parker was honored prior to the game in the annual
“Senior Day” ceremony. The Bruins’ big man from Atlanta scored 14 points
on 6-of-10 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds in his final
regular-season game in Pauley Pavilion.
Trailing by 16 points with 5:31 remaining in the second half, UCLA
(15-16, 6-12 Pac-12) assembled a furious late rally, reducing Oregon
State’s advantage to one point (83-82) in the final 30 seconds of the
game.
Aaron Holiday nailed a 3-pointer with 49 seconds to play, and after a
pair of free throws from Oregon State’s Jarmal Reid, Isaac Hamilton
made back-to-back 3-pointers to reduce UCLA’s deficit to 82-79 at the
30-second mark. Derrick Bruce made one of two ensuing free throws for
the visiting Beavers (18-11, 9-9), and Hamilton followed with a
3-pointer with 20 seconds to play, cutting OSU’s cushion to 83-82.
After Oregon State made one of two free throws with 17 seconds left,
UCLA had one final opportunity on offense but was unable to get a shot
off before OSU’s Bruce got a steal in the game’s final five seconds.
UCLA and Oregon State entered halftime with a 31-31 tie. The Beavers
used a 10-0 scoring run early in the second half to secure a 43-33 lead
with 14:44 to play before extending their cushion to as many as 16
points late in the second half.
Stephen Thompson Jr. finished with a game-high 23 points for Oregon
State, connecting on 7 of 16 shots and 4 of 6 attempts from 3-point
range.
Thomas Welsh recorded his team-leading 10th double-double for the
Bruins, who dropped their fourth consecutive game. Welsh finished with
14 points and 12 rebounds.
Seeded No. 10 in next week’s Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas, UCLA
will face No. 7-seed USC on Wednesday, March 9. Game time is 6 p.m. PT
at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. UCLA’s game will be televised on Pac-12
Networks.
