CHARLESTON, S.C. – Stanford’s sailing team finished third in a highly competitive field this past weekend at the Bob Bavier Team Race.
The event featured eight teams which finished in the top ten at the
2015 LaserPerformance Team Race Nationals, including defending national
champion Yale, who finished one spot behind the Cardinal.
Stanford started strongly in the first two rounds, going 7-2 and 6-3
to put them in the finals with Yale, Charleston and eventual champions
Georgetown. The Cardinal defeated Georgetown and Yale in the first round
of finals, but dropped three decisions in the second round to settle
for third place and a 15-9 overall record.
The Cardinal, sailing in its second event of the spring, was skippered by sophomore Will La Dow, senior Axel Sly, junior Reinier Eenkema van Dijk and senior Antoine Screve.
Juniors Nikki Obel and J.P. Cannistraro, sophomores Grace Lucas and Kennedy Placek and senior Sammy Steele served as crews.
Stanford returns to the water March 19-20 when it sends five teams to
three cities. The Bryson Women’s Regatta and the Gold/Silver Regatta
will be hosted by the Cardinal in Redwood City, Calif. with teams also
competing at the Graham Hall Team Race in Annapolis, MD., the Laser
Midwinters West Regatta in Long Beach, Calif. and the St. Mary’s Women’s
Interconference in St. Mary’s City, MD. Live results will be available
