Osborne, a nurse and gerontologist, is being recognized for her local, state and national work in both disciplines. The award acknowledges her leadership in Sacramento State’s Gerontology Program: curriculum development, maintenance, and growth; and her coordination and development of national nursing gerontology/geriatric standards and curricula.
The award will be presented at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront Hotel in Florida. The ceremony is part of AGHE’s 39th annual Meeting and Educational Leadership Conference from Feb. 28 to March 3.
Osborne has been serving people in need since 1974. “I wanted to be a nurse as a 5-year-old and a teacher soon after becoming an RN,” she says. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Osborne moved to Sacramento with her husband and began teaching at Sacramento State in 1984 while pursuing a doctorate at the University of San Francisco. She has directed the University’s Gerontology Program since 1996.
“It has been so wonderful working with older people whose resilience and wisdom has taught me a great deal about living life to the fullest,” Osborne says. “I enjoy passing those valuable lessons to my gerontology and nursing students.”
