V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery. One Billion Rising is a single-day global action, consisting
primarily of dance strikes, which will occur on Tuesday, February 14, 2013. Every 2013 V-Day event will promote One Billion Rising.

“This is such a critical and powerful campaign - I hope that you will join me for this kickoff event to rise and dance for the 1 BILLION women who are victims of violence and rape,” said West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore Abbe Land.  “Rise with us to show the world that West Hollywood respects the rights and dignity of every woman and girl to break the chain of violence,” continued Mayor Pro Tempore Land.

MENding Monologues will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 8 p.m. in the West Hollywood City Council Chambers.  Inspired by Eve Ensler’s play, The Vagina Monologues, this 90-minute show explores gender violence issues from a male perspective and empowers men and women to become advocates for global change.  Using first-person monologues and hard-hitting slam poetry, MENding Monologues will encourage audience members to make tangible changes.  The performance will be followed by a next-day Writing Workshop on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the West Hollywood Park Auditorium. The Writing Workshop will be conducted by MENding Monologues actors.
