Tanker and Barge Collision In The Houston Ship Channel

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is responding to a collision between a tug pushing barges and a tanker in the Houston Ship Channel Sunday.

There has been no report of pollution or injury from either vessel. The unloaded 800-foot tanker, Minerva Maya, is reporting damage to the port bow and the five barges being pushed by the tug, M.L. Crochet, sustained some damage. All vessels are currently secured and in stable condition.

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Texas City watchstanders were notified of the collision at 9 a.m. and began the response.

A team of incident responders, marine inspectors, port state control examiners and marine casualty investigators from the marine safety unit are going to each vessel to conduct a preliminary investigation and mitigate any possible risk to environment or the mariners aboard the vessels.

The cause of this collision is under investigation.

Tanker and Bulk Carrier Collide Off Galveston

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is responding to a collision between two deep draft ships approximately 30 miles off the coast of Galveston today.

There has been no report of injury or pollution from either vessel; however, both vessels are reporting damage but are in stable condition.

At approximately 5:50 a.m. watchstanders at Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Texas City received a report of a collision between the 900-foot Tank Vessel Profit loaded with approximately 19 million gallons of crude oil and the 625-foot Motor Vessel Imperial Spirit loaded with grain.

The Coast Guard launched an Air Station Houston helicopter with a pollution incident responder to conduct an initial damage assessment.

Coast Guard Cutter Skipjack was also launched with a team of incident responders, marine inspectors, and marine casualty investigators to conduct a preliminary investigation and mitigate any possible further risk to the environment or the mariners aboard the two vessels.

Carnival Triumph Set Adrift, Shipyard Worker Missing!


MOBILE, Ala. — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing shipyard employee and responding to a report of a cruise ship adrift on the Mobile River, Wednesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report at approximately 1:45 p.m. that a BAE Systems employee became missing after the Carnival Triumph broke free from its moorings while in dry dock at the BAE shipyard. The missing employee is reported as a black male in his 40s and reportedly not wearing a life jacket. One other BAE employee was recovered safely. The ship is reportedly at the Signal International shipyard across from BAE.

The tug vessel New Wednesday is on scene stabilizing the Triumph, and four additional tug vessels are en route to assist with stabilization operations.

The Coast Guard has issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast for mariners to keep a look out for the missing BAE  employee on the Mobile River.

Resources deployed in the search:

One Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew;

Two Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island boatcrews;

Two Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Mobile boatcrewa;

Two Mobile Police Department boatcrews;

One Mobile Police helicopter.

The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the incident.

Sarah Long Bridge Collision, Tanker Freed

BOSTON — The 473-foot tanker Harbour Feature was successfully freed at approximately 6 p.m., Monday after colliding with the Sarah Long Bridge, on the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth, N.H.

Tug boats were able to safely tow the 473-foot, Portuguese flagged, motor vessel Harbour Feature from the bridge to the state pier during a slack tide.

There has been no pollution reported.

There have been no injuries reported.


Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England received a report from the Harbour Feature that it became disabled and allided with the bridge at approximately 1:30 p.m., Monday. At this time, the vessel is carrying an unknown amount of tallow oil.

The Harbour Feature crew has reported a six-to-twelve inch rupture above the waterline of the vessel near the port ballast tank. At this time there is no water entering the ship and no pollution from the ship.

473-foot Tanker Collided With The Sarah Long Bridge

BOSTON — The Coast Guard is responding to a 473-foot tanker that collided with the Sarah Long Bridge in Portsmouth, N.H., at approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England received a report from the 473-foot, Portuguese flagged, motor vessel Harbour Feature that it became disabled and allided with the bridge. The vessel is carrying an unknown amount of tallow oil. Both of the vessel's anchors have also been deployed.

Vessel traffic in the channel is closed until the Harbour Feature is able to be moved from the channel.

Two tug vessels are enroute to assist and will attempt to free the vessel at slack tide.

There has been no pollution reported.

There have been no injuries reported.
