Musician Spotlight: Jacquie Lee Interview

Colts Neck, New Jersey - Sixteen year old Jacquie Lee from Colts Neck, New Jersey is a contestant on the NBC's "The Voice".  On  "The Voice" Jacquie is mentored by Christina Aguilera  We recently had the chance to interview Jacquie on her music.

When did you start singing?
I started singing in the fourth grade. My very first performance was actually at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. I sang Santa Baby for a holiday show.

Was it your dream to be a singer?
Actually, no. I was petrified of singing in front of people when I was younger. The first time I got the courage to sing in front of my family, I locked myself in a closet, turned off the lights, put my back to the door and sang. For some reason I thought if they couldn't see me, they couldn't hear me.

Tell us about your style of singing?
I really love classic songs, soulful melodies and folky lyrics. I guess my style of singing encompasses all of that. I like to call it folky pop-soul.

Are there challenges pursuing a singing career?
Of course! For me, it's just a challenge to balance my days with high school, field hockey, songwriting and just being a 16 year old.

Does your parents and friends support you?
Yes, they are so incredibly supportive. I am so blessed.

Do you write your own songs?
You bet I do!

If so, tell us what goes into writing a great song?
Soul, conviction, discipline and a knack for really great melodies!

Where was your first performance, were you excited?
The first time I sang my original music was at a small coffee house in Keyport, NJ called Espresso Joe's.  I was terrified, but it ended up being really amazing.

Where have you been able to perform?
I've got to sing the National Anthem at a Phillies game. I've sung at the great Count Basie Theater and I've had the privilege to sing at many charity events.

Who inspires you with your singing and songwriting?
All the masters that came before me.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would really be honored to perform just about anywhere in the world where people would be willing to listen.

Along the same line, who would you love to perform with?
If I could have had the chance definitely Michael Jackson.

What are some of your goals for your Music?
I look forward to releasing my originals very soon and I hope to get to be able to perform them live for you!

What do you hope to accomplish with your singing/songwriting?
I hope people will take the time out to listen to my words, understand my story and find comfort in my songs.

What three words best describe you and your music?
Soulful, emotional, real.

Do you have any advice for those wanting to start a career in singing and songwriting?
Know yourself, trust yourself, dedicate yourself to your passion & sometimes listen instead of speaking.

Is there anything else you want our readers to know about you, your singing/songwriting?
Yes, follow me @jacquieleemusic and like me at facebook.com/jacquieleemusic. :)

Do you have any other talents?
I like sports. I might be small but I'm mighty!

What was it like auditioning on "The Voice"?
It was the most surreal experience of my life!

We can't wait to see where this beautiful sixteen year old singing takes her. Please tune in to watch Jacquie on NBC's "The Voice".

BREAKING NEWS: Multi-Alarm Fire Burning On Seaside Boardwalk Under Control

Seaside Park, New Jersey - A major fire that has gone to at least eight alarms on the Funtown Pier in Seaside Park has been put under control, says firefighters on scene. The fire had previously spread to four blocks, and firefighters were trying all day to contain it.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Only minor injuries are reported, according to Governor Christie. Authorities say that there is massive property damage, mostly along the boardwalk. Multiple strike teams from neighboring counties are on scene to help battle the fire. Pipelines have been established, according to fire officials.

According to Governor Christie's press conference at 7 p.m., there were 35 engine companies, 15 ladder companies and approximately 400 firefighters on scene. He assured everyone that he will provide any resources necessary to fight the fire. The 30 mph winds, according to Christie, were making the fire hard to contain. In his presser, he also told the public to not come back to area until authorities deemed it safe.

Officials say the fire began at 1807 Boardwalk and Stockton Avenue, at the Kohr's Frozen Custard Stand, about two blocks from Seaside Heights.

The flames erupted around 2:30 p.m. and quickly spread north. SkyFOX showed flames just eating through the newly-laid boardwalk. Crews had worked all spring to replace the boards torn away by Superstorm Sandy last fall.

By 3 p.m., there were reports that embers were starting to blow beyond the fire scene, and fire companies were called in to assist from several surrounding communities. Firefighters were forced to rip out some of the boardwalk to lay a waterline.

Winds are coming from the South, which is pushing the fire North toward a new section of the boardwalk. Fire crews are working to prevent the fire from spreading North.

Governor Christie's press office issued this statement:

Pictures and video of the fire are startling and sad given what Seaside Park and neighboring Seaside Heights have endured with Superstorm Sandy. Governor Christie is deeply concerned and will get a first-hand look shortly at the scene, where he will be speaking further with Mayor Matthies and Mayor Akers and offering the state's full resources and assistance. Our concerns and prayers are also with firefighters and first responders at the scene battling the blaze.

RCN America Network send prayers to the firefighters, business owners that lot everything and the community as this is the second time being hard hit by a disaster. Almost a year ago this same area was hit by superstorm Sandy.

BREAKING NEWS: 6 Alarm Fire on New Jersey Boardwalk

UPDATE 6:20pm: 80% of New Jersey Broadwalk has been destroyed by raging fire that is still out of control. 2-3 dozens businesses have been destroyed  PRAY for all those fighting this raging fire and the community that was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy almost a year ago.

Seaside Park, New Jersey - A raging 6 alarm fire that apparently started in an ice cream shop has spread
several blocks down a New Jersey shore boardwalk that was damaged in Superstorm Sandy and was being repaired.

Television footage showed flames and thick black smoke billowing from a long stretch of the boardwalk Thursday in Seaside Park.

Seaside Heights Police Chief Thomas Boyd said tar roofs and stiff winds were fanning the flames. He said a section of boardwalk was being removed to create a fire line to keep the blaze from spreading.

He said the fire created embers the size of a fist.

The fire is believed to have started in a Kohr's custard shop.

Authorities say several firefighters and residents were being treated for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
