Simone Biles Wins Individual Sportswoman of the Year Award

New York City, New York - Simone Biles, who just won her second straight World all-around title, was just named the Women’s Sports Foundation’s 2014 Individual Sportswoman of the Year at the organization’s Salute to Women in Sports Gala held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The 2014 award is based on achievements between Aug. 1, 2013, and July 31, 2014.

Biles, a first year senior elite in 2013, dominated the women’s senior division in the fall of 2013. At the 2013 P&G Championships, Biles won her first U.S. senior all-around title, as well as the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise silver medals. At the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, Biles became the first African-American gymnast and only the seventh American woman to win a World all-around crown. She also earned gold in the individual floor exercise after completing a stunning double layout half out, which is now officially named “The Biles” because she is the first woman to successfully perform the skill in a World Championship or Olympic competition.
