Walk-Off Win Highlights No. 13 Tritons' Triple-Header With Humboldt State

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 13 University of California San Diego softball team picked up a pair of wins, including a dramatic walk-off win, in a tripleheader with California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Humboldt State on Friday. With the outcome, the Tritons improve to 15-3 on the season and 13-2 in CCAA play, while the Lumberjacks fall to 4-9 on the season and 2-8 in conference action.

Game one: Humboldt State 6, UC San Diego 5
The Lumberjacks edged the Tritons in game one. The Tritons grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on another run in the third, but Humboldt State answered late. The Lumberjacks held a 6-4 lead in the seventh inning, and Keila Bosinger helped cut the deficit with a solo shot over the left field fence, but the comeback fell just short.

Bosinger netted a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs in the game. Danica Kazakoff, Brittney Ross-Smith, and Alyssa Wing also recorded multi-hit games in the series opener, contributing to the Tritons’ 10-hit effort. 

Game two: UC San Diego 9, Humboldt State 8
The Triton hitters compiled another strong offensive effort in game two, putting up 10 hits once again. After the Lumberjacks managed to snag a 1-0 lead in the first, the Tritons responded in the bottom of the inning. Clarissa Reynoso smacked a double to center field to drive in Maddy Lewis and Danica Kazakoff and give the Tritons a 2-1 advantage. They tacked on one more run in the second, when Bosinger led off with a single up the middle, stole second and third, and came home on a single by Danielle Stedman.

Humboldt State evened the score in the third and took an 8-3 lead in the fifth, but the Tritons were not done yet, fighting back in the bottom half. Bosinger continued to show her power, this time driving a triple into right field to bring home Reynoso and Maddy Lewis to make it an 8-5 game.

A big seventh inning put the Tritons on top. Lewis started things off with a single to center, and moved to third on a double by Ross-Smith. The senior was eventually able to touch home on a groundout by Bosinger. Pinch-running for Ross-Smith, Brittney Baisden brought the Tritons within one when Stedman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Another walk with the bases juiced, this time to Isabel Lavrov, tied the game. With two outs, Kazakoff stroked a single to center field to secure the Tritons a walk-off win. 

Game three: UC San Diego 8, Humboldt State 0 (5 innings)
Game three was all UC San Diego, as the bats continued to stay hot. It was truly a team effort, as seven Tritons recorded hits in the contest. Bosinger, Kazakoff, and Wing each contributed two RBIs to the Tritons’ total, while Harrington and Lavrov tacked on one apiece.

Robyn Wampler shut down the Humboldt State bats. The pitcher scattered four hits across five innings, while not allowing a run or a walk. Wampler also picked up three strikeouts en route to her conference-best ninth victory.

The Triton defense was top notch as well, recording 15 putouts over the five innings without committing an error.
