Save the Date! “Strategies for Success in Today’s Economy” Free Small Business Seminar on Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Seminar topics to include tax advice for small businesses, as well domestic partner and property issues
West Hollywood, California - Just in time for tax season, a free small business seminar entitled “Strategies for Success in Today’s Economy” will take place on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Fiesta Hall Community Room in Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. The event is hosted by the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce; Jerome E. Horton, Chairman of the State Board of Equalization; California State Senator Ted W. Lieu; and City of West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang. The seminar is designed for new business owners, entrepreneurs considering starting a business, professionals currently operating a business who have questions about state or federal tax laws, and individuals who want to improve their business know-how.

            The seminar will include presentations by the State Board of Equalization, the Internal Revenue Service, the Franchise Tax Board, the Employment Development Department, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Small Business Development Center/L.A. Regional Network. Topics to be discussed include:

·       Avoiding sales and use tax problems

·       Navigating the IRS for small businesses

·       Innocent spouse/domestic partner relief of liability and statutory issues

·       Income tax and domestic partnership

·       Property tax – changes in ownership exclusion
