The two-day event will see Elite and Juniors compete on the 166-meter track in Detroit.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – On Monday, USA Cycling announced that the 2021 USA Cycling Madison Track National Championships would be held November 12-14, 2021, at the Lexus Velodrome in Detroit, Mich. The partnership will be a five-year deal, securing the Madison Track Championships at the venue through 2025.
“The Detroit Fitness Foundation is very excited
to announce this partnership with USA Cycling to host the Madison Track National Championships for the next half-decade,” said Dale Hughes, Executive Director for the Detroit Fitness Foundation. “Bringing Madison Track Nationals to the Lexus Velodrome has been something we have wanted to do since we opened the velodrome in 2018.”
Friday will see the Junior Men & Women’s Championships on the track. The events will be open to riders ages 15 to 18. Friday’s schedule will offer exclusive training times for junior riders to give them the opportunity to prepare to race the steepest velodrome in the U.S. The Elite Men & Women will take to the boards on Saturday night to compete in their national championships. On Sunday, the venue will offer the 2021 Lexus Mixed Madison Invitational. It will feature men/women madison team races and elite/junior madison team races in this unique competition. The velodrome will provide travel and housing stipends for participants.
“Bringing a national championship to a new venue is something USA Cycling strives to do. It allows for the sharing of values and growth of the local cycling community. Detroit is a city with a strong cycling history, and we’re excited to welcome riders from all over the country to the Lexus Velodrome community,” said Tara McCarthy, Director of National Events for USA Cycling.
